Venture Catalyst is a new initiative developed by the University of South Australia (UniSA) and the South Australian Government, assisting students to translate ideas into business opportunities and generating economic growth for South Australia.

With $150,000 committed by the Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources & Energy (DMITRE) and the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science & Technology (DFEEST) Venture Catalyst is open to current students and recent UniSA graduates.

The Opportunity

Venture Catalyst will provide a maximum amount of $50,000 seed funding to student ventures selected by an independent external panel of successful entrepreneurs to further develop a product, service or process and take it to market.

Successful students will also be eligible for further mentoring support and accommodation for the venture and mentors can be provided by the university or nominated by applicants (subject to approval).

Application Process

Eligibility Criteria for Seed Funding

To be eligible for seed funding, applicants must:

  • Be representing a project team that includes at least one current student or recent graduate from UniSA
  • Demonstrate how you intend to undertake your project activities for the benefit of South Australia
  • Show evidence that you own the IP or have permission to use the IP to be commercialised
  • Have your application endorsed by UniSA

Applications close Monday 25 August 2014
Pitch day for Finalists Thursday 18 September 2014
Sucessful applicants notified Thursday 9 October 2014
